Freedom of Assembly: The Right to Protest!

Women's rights are human rights! Hey hey, ho ho, fossil fuels have got to go! These are some of the things that people have chanted while protesting. The First Amendment gives people the right to gather in groups and peacefully protest for something they believe in, or against something they think is wrong. This right is important because it gives people a voice, and helps them try to change things to make the world better. If we didn't have the First Amendment, then the government would make all of the decisions, and the citizens would have to agree with them, even if the laws were harmful. Recently, thousands of people gathered in Manhattan to protest fossil fuels and their impact on our climate. I would protest for trees not getting cut down, and people not harming animals or destroying their habitats. The next time you see someone being treated unfairly, or the environment being harmed, use your First Amendment right and make a difference!
